New Mexico’s largest ski area is Taos with uncrowded slopes, great snow conditions and incredible terrain. Taos Mountain will be open to skiers and now boarders too for the 2008/09 season.
Taos Ski Valley Resort is located in the Southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico which is connected on the north by Colorado. New Mexico receives similar snow conditions to its neighbor with Taos Mountain getting around eight meters of snow every season. The resort is still fairly young, Taos was originally founded in 1955 by avid skier Ernie Blake and it is not difficult to see why he picked the area. Over half the terrain is for advanced and expert skiers with incredible bowls and steep tree skiing all covered in a good amount of light New Mexico snow. For the beginner and intermediate skier there is a good variety of green and blue runs and with an excellent ski school it will not be long before you are advancing onto the blacks.
The 2008/09 season will be the first season that snowboarders are allowed on Taos Mountain, until now unless you skied you couldn’t use the lifts. Plus Angel Fire Ski Resort and Red River Ski Resort are just a short drive away and are well worth testing out while you are staying in Taos. |
