Snowbird & Alta are legendary ski resorts that lie side by side in Little Cottonwood Canyon. They boast the greatest snow on earth and the ultimate in challenging runs.
The legendary powder that falls on Snowbird and Alta has a pure natural quality, dusting a combined 5000 acres with an average of more than 40 feet of snow each winter. The resorts are located less than a mile apart, are fully linked for skiers (boarding is not permitted at Alta) and one lift ticket is now available to provide access to all the lifts and terrain of these two American classics.
The natural setting is spectacular, with Hidden Peak rising almost vertically out of Snowbird village and served by the Aerial Tram. Access to the terrain is quick, and queues at both resorts are practically unknown. You can choose to stay in either village, both of course with ski in/ski out access. The statistics alone make compelling reading for good intermediates to advanced skiers; however the reality is better. Snowbird and Alta win rave reviews from our guests for whom exquisite snow and challenging terrain are imperatives in their resort choice. Snowbird's nooks and crannies, gullies and valleys, steeps and deeps have become almost mythical, but it's also highly recommended for improving intermediates that simply want to hone their skills in the best snow possible.
When the lifts close there is a superb spa at the Cliff Lodge, plus snowmobiling and dinner sleigh rides. All the resort amenities are within walking distance. Salt Lake City is but 30 minutes away for excellent city shopping, and of course the close proximity to the airport certainly compensates for the two-flight journey. Snowbird guests tend to focus on the up-scale quality of the après-ski rather than the lateness of the hour. Indeed, if there's fresh powder forecast or in the air, guests tend to retire early so they can start dreaming of yet another ultimate powder day. |
