Lake Placid is home of Whiteface Mountain, most famous for hosting ski events at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. With 76 runs it offers a good amount of skiing, most of the terrain is aimed at the Intermediate to Advanced skier and due to the fact that they have snowmaking to cover 98% of the mountain this is as snow sure as you can get. Although the skiing is fantastic at Whiteface this is not always the main reason for visiting the Lake Placid Area. This stunning location is perfect for picturesque winter walks, spas and relaxing in the calming surroundings of the Adirondack mountain range. Or for the more adventurous there is an endless list of winter activities, try the Olympic bobsled run, go dog sledding, take a snow shoe tour or go ice fishing and catch evening diner.
