Killington

Area: Vermont

Killington is a tried and trusted New
England favourite boasting the largest ski area in the east and is one of the best ski destinations for families.

A high proportion of Killington's lifts give access to either blue or black graded trails as well as
gentle greens – and they often finish in the same place; all of which means that families or skiers
of different ability levels are able to ski and board together for longer. Killington is accessible too -
daily non-stop flights to Boston, which means less travel time and jet lag, and consequently less stress for parents! The resort also has a "kids ski free" programme, an excellent infant and child care centre, and a range of activities and diversions very much geared to active families.

Killington is traditionally the first ski area in the USA to open and the last to close with an average annual snowfall of 245 inches. A network of over 1,750 snow cannons give fabulous snow "insurance" when mother nature needs a helping hand. The total Killington area is big and all abilities have plenty to explore for at least a week – 31 ski lifts, 200 trails, 1150 acres are the most important statistics, but of course only tell part of the story. Variety as well as the number of trails is what keeps Killington guests returning; wideopen groomed cruisers, narrow classic New England runs, moguls, steeps, and trees. Killington offers multiple terrain features for snowboarders and for skiers too, including terrain parks and a 430-foot long super pipe.

The resort hotels, condominiums, bars and restaurants meander along the valley road through Killington. The region has many other activities including cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog sledding, spas, shopping, fine dining, and nightlife at more than 100 restaurants and bars. Although in essence there is no "village centre", the resort has an excellent bus service, however a car is an included and useful convenience – not only for the transfer to and from Boston, but for exploring this beautiful corner of New England too.
