Just over a 2-hour drive from Denver Airport along Interstate Highway 70 and ten minutes west of Vail, Beaver Creek was originally developed as the showcase village for Colorado's 1976 Olympic bid, and to appeal especially to a discerning clientele who put a premium on luxury and elegance for themselves and their families. The resort is run with effortless efficiency, there are few crowds, and the pisted slopes are as smooth and well groomed as the skiers.
Beaver Creek certainly showcases the finest in mountain village architecture, sublime hotels, quality shopping and dining, exemplary service and effortless transportation - including an escalator ride and heated walkways from the village to the base of the mountain! But above all the sophistication,Beaver Creek offers an excellent range of skiing and snowboarding, with challenging runs for the serious skier. Don't forget that you can also ski Beaver Creek's big sister, Vail, as well as Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin and Keystone on the same "Colorado Ticket".
Beaver Creek Mountain has a wide choice of trails. Grouse Mountain is an expert-only area with long, steep mogul runs and gladed terrain. A well-planned expansion programme now offers close to 150 trails spread across 1625 beautiful acres. It is possible to ski between the 3 resort villages of Beaver Creek, Arrowhead and now Bachelor Gulch, where the sublime Ritz-Carlton has taken skier luxury and convenience to a new plateau. The Beaver Creek Child Centre is arguably the best In the Colorado Rockies, and families can ski, board and play together in theme parks like Zoom Room. Beaver Creek has numerous designer shops and boutiques.
There are around 25 restaurants (reservations normally required) and 10 bars within the pretty traffic-free village centre, but the après ski is understated and quieter than nearby Vail. Try the Dusty Boot Saloon, Coyote Café for pub fare, or Toscanini for fine dining. Arrowhead Village and Bachelor Gulch have a limited choice of restaurants, but are linked to Beaver Creek by the free, on demand guest shuttle. One evening, take a sleigh ride or snow-cat into the mountains for a world class dining experience at rustic Beano's Cabin. |
